Our Mission Statement:
Lakes Area Restorative Justice Project is a Community Directed, operated and supported nonprofit organization in Crow Wing County whose mission is to restore Community by involving juveniles who have caused harm, the people who were harmed and local citizens in a process which addresses the needs of the victim, holds the youth accountable for restoration and promotes healing for all.
Our Goals:
1. Provide a cost and time efficient alternative to the juvenile court process or traditional school disciplinary measures.
2. Provide an alternative for youth that cause harm which supports and rewards positive behavior instead of being judged and separated from the community as “juvenile delinquents” or “problem children”.
3. Provide a forum for those victimized to express their feelings about the impact of the harmful behavior, to get answers to questions about the offense, and to participate in plans for reparation.
4. Aid offenders in understanding the true impact of their actions on their victims, their own families and their communities.
5. Hold offenders accountable for the harm they have caused in as direct and respectful a manner as possible.
6. Involve and engage the community in finding solutions to behaviors that cause harm.
